I took these pictures with glee. I've been waiting 7-days to get such a gem. The foot belongs to Pablo Casado at The Bull of Africa Adventure Race. Essentially, he's a rookie. This was he and his team's first expedition race. I don't think most have even done a 250km. The left foot was way worse than right. As he said, the problem was sand and having wet socks and shoes. |

Ultrarunner Mark Zimmerman came close to losing an all-important big toe. "I attempt to step over a pile of "stuff", misjudge, and catch my left great toe on a sharp-edged backpack strap, and trip. The toe twists downward at a severe angle. It snaps." Photos counter clockwise: 1. The toe stitched back together after the emergency room visit on March 31. 2 and 3. Surgery to repair the tendon on April 11 with the right photo showing the tendon repaired (the white band up the center of the toe. 4. After the stitches came out on May 4th |

Lisa de Speville, a adventure racer and ultrarunner, and journalist from Johannesburg, South Africa provides this great toe photo. The toe belongs to Lee Caper and the shot was taken after his second Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon (6 stages over 7 days) an ultra in a very, very hot semi-desert environment. Lisa reports he blistered, as he did the year before, developing this toe-sock blister (her terminology for this type of blister formation). |
